Your DSO Questions Answered
For many dentists, the reality of private practice ownership can add additional stressors and responsiblity that takes time and energy to manage. Staff recruitment, patient marketing, and the everyday management of a small business can suck up time from a practitioner. What we have found is that this traditional model is not right for every dentist.
Generally, a DSO will provide administrative and operational support to their clinicians. This means that things like marketing, staffing, patient billing, and insurance negotiations will be partly or fully managed by the DSO.
At Aspen Dental, we provide best in class organizational, administrative, and structural support while also empowering you by connecting you to the Aspen Dental network of Dentists. If you need training or mentorship, our culture of fellowship is there to support you. Our goal is to simplify your process, allowing you to focus on dentistry, not on the minutia of running a small business.

This is false. A DSO cannot make or influence clinical decisions made by Dentists or Specialists.
Aspen Dental offices are owned and run by dentists; any mentoring or direction that is given is by fellow clinicians who have the same credentials and background as them. The DSO model which we hold exists to provide business support which in turn alleviates our clinicians from the administrative duties that many private practice dentists do not have the luxury of leaving behind.
Under the Aspen Dental model, Owners, Managing Clinical Directors, Associate Dentists, can all focus on what they do best; practicing dentistry.
A common misconception about DSOs is that they are purely profit driven and are willing to cut corners to chase the bottom line. While we can't speak for every DSO in the world, at Aspen Dental our focus is not profit. We are driven by our mission to provide the highest quality dental care throughout America. Here, patient care always comes first.
At Aspen Dental, we encourage a policy of full transparency with our patients. We provide a comprehensive treatment plan with a focus on providing the best possible patient care based on the severity of the care needed. Although a comprehensive treatment plan may be overwhleming to a patient intially, many plans are lengthy because so many Aspen Dental patients have not seen a dentist in several years.
